“It doesn't just theorize. It gives you an actual framework for how to lead with honor under pressure.”
From the book
A standard to return to
under pressure.
When policy cannot settle a difficult call, your commitments still have to guide it. The book asks you to make those commitments explicit.
- Name the line. Write the commitments you will hold when keeping them becomes costly.
- Recognize your risk. Examine how conviction, restraint, growth, endurance, and service can become liabilities.
- Make the code usable. Give someone permission to challenge you and decide what would make you reconsider.
Honor Under Pressure
A code helps you refuse the comforts a failing arrangement offers. It prevents “the report was green” from ending a conversation about harm you could see. It prevents “we followed the process” from becoming the whole account of a decision you authorized. It also prevents “this is a crisis” from becoming permission to ignore every limit.
